GREATEST SINGERS OF INDIA

Most popular Bollywood Singers

A singer is incredibly vital to a song especially with Hindi movie songs what with the Hindi movies being so dependant on their film music. Not only does he/she infuse soul into a song but it’s his/her emotions which reach out to the audience at large when he/she sings. A good singer has the magic in his voice which stirs up dormant human emotions. He/she can put a smile to a grumpy face or bring a tear to a joyous man.

The name that first strikes the mind on mention of Hindi movie singers has to be the one and only Lata Mangeshkar. Infact MS Subbulakshmi and she are the only 2 Indian singers who have received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. She has sung over 40000 songs in more than 20 different Indian languages most of them being Hindi and Marathi. She is singing even today being well into her late seventies but the freshness in her voice is just the way it used to be in her youthful days. Her rendition of Ae mere watan ke logon had made the then Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru’s eyes moist. Even today her voice has the power to move her listener’s souls.

Despite the huge shadow cast by her elder sister Asha Bhosle managed to stand out and carve a niche for herself. She is one of the most popular and successful of Hindi movie singers and has sung in many other different languages like Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri etc. She still manages to have the youthful energy in her songs sung recently like Rangeela which she had when she sung in her young days like evident in the song piya tu, omere sona re, jaiye aap kahan, mehbooba o mehbooba  to name a few.

Kishore Kumar was a singer who stood out not just for his singing abilities but his acting capabilities as well. His voice is full of mischief and boyish charm in songs like Ek ladki bheegi bhaagi si or full of pain in songs like Mere naina saawan bhado, Ye laal rang etc. Kishore Kumar is very talented versatile singer who could sing any kind of song whether it is a crazy playful song or an extremely sad song. Listen to the playful songs like  "kaike paan banaras wala" from the movie Don Ghunguru ki tarah bajatha hei raha hu mein and you'll realize the difference and appreciate his talent. He used to be the best voicemate for Bollywood top stars like  Rajesh Khanna, Amitab Bachan, Sanjiv Kumar, Dharmendra and more. He ruled the  Bollywood film industry for more than 30 years.

Mohammed Rafi was another very successful singer whose songs are popular even today .His hit songs include chaudhvi ka chand ho, baharon phool barsayo, pardah hai pardah to name a few. Rafi's voice is more suitable for emotional songs even though he had been very successful singing different types of songs. Rafi has a very soothing voice he used to be the number one singer  prior to Kishore Kumar. Did you know playback singer S.P.Balasubrahmanyam is a diehard fan of Mohd.Rafi.

Other popular Bollywood Male singers include Hemant Kumar, Manna Dey, Mahinder Kapoor, Boopinder Singh, Talat mahamood, Shailender Singh,  Anwar, Shabbir Kumar, Suresh Watekar, Mohd.Aziz, Amit Kumar, K. J. Yesudas, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, Udit Narayan and  Kumar Sanu.

Other popular female Bollywood singers include Amirbai Karnataki, Shamshad Begum, Geeta Dutt, Noorjahan, Suman Kalyanpur, Suraiya, Sulakshana Pandit, Usha Mangeshkar, Usha Uthap, Usha Khanna, Sharda, Sapna Mukerji, Vani Jayaram, Hema SardesI, Ila Arun, Alisha Chinai, Kavita Krishnamurthy, K.S.Chitra, Anuradha Paudwal, Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam, Shweta Mohan, Shweta Pandit and more..

Some singers just have the pain and depth ion their voice which can move even a stone hearted person and Jagjit Singh definitely is one of them. My own personal all time favorite singer he has mastered the art of ghazal rendering. His solo albums are as successful as his Hindi film ghazals. His soul moving songs include Tum itna jo muskura rahe ho, Jhuki jhuki si nazar, Chitthi na koi sandesh, Tum paas aa rahe ho to name a few.

Sonu Nigam is one of the most popular and sought after Hindi playback singers today and has a huge fan following. His voice leaves one mesmerized. Hit famous songs include Kal ho na ho, Sandase aate hain etc.

Other popular singers of today include the very talented Shaan, KK, Sunudhi, Shreya Ghosal, Alka Yagnik, Chitra, Alisha Chinai, Kunal Ganjawala, Shafqat Amanat Khan etc.
